HILAL CAN (TR)
HILAL CAN (TR)
There is a one-eyed monster roaming Lost Farm.
When darkness engulfs Lost Farm HQ all Lostfarmers gather together in The Cave where Turkish interdisciplinary artist Hilal Can will let out an unrestrained artistic monster through her Cyclop analog live-visual performance.
Her Cyclop Visuals takes its name from the one-eyed monster in Greek mythology, where emotion and expression, shaped by sound, tone, and harmony, are projected from a one-eyed machine using light and mirrors. The performance, which values improvisation, process, and the moment, brings together musicians and sound artists from different disciplines to capture the visuals of the moment - co-artist is yet TBA.
Hilal Can explores external and internal reality in visual composition, emphasizing improvisation, live elements, and process. In her performance she uses analog techniques and machinery to communicate, enabling the externalization of sounds through colors or shapes by using different materials. The analog nature of the process also demonstrates that the material itself is included at the moment as an organism.
Throughout Lost Farm Festival you will have the opportunity to experience Hilal Can in various contexts. Besides her performance, she will be in The Lounge playing a DJ-set with her favourite Turkish music from the 60/70's and up to today, and Saturday afternoon she will be down at the Odden Harbour doing an art tattoo workshop where you either can get a tattoo on transfer paper or get one poked for real.
Hilal Can is a visual artist whose practice spans painting, ceramics, collage, installation, murals, and analog photography. She has had exhibitions and performances in Europe, US, and Turkey. Since 2020, she has also been producing experimental music and sound performances, including the live analog visualization project Cyclop Visuals, featured at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
Hilal Can at Lost Farm Festival is supported by the Danish Cultural Institute.
